It looks as if Mischa Barton's health isn't what the producers of The Beautiful Life are worried about. It's model's Elle Macpherson's acting skills, or lack there of.

An on-set source told The Daily News, "In comparison [to Elle Macpherson], Mischa is a dream come true for producers because she has experience" with three seasons of The O.C., says the source, who adds: "The real problem with The Beautiful Life is definitely the acting now, not Mischa's emotional state."

The source also reveals that acting coaches are being interviewed for Macpherson, as well as other model cast members. The prime-time show's execs, who include Ashton Kutcher, must hope their chosen cast can be taught to do more than just walk and look pretty. The pressure is on: The show needs to be taped, edited and in the can for the premiere on Sept. 16.

Continues the insider, "All the models need to be taught how to act, but the main focus is Elle, because she has one of the biggest roles."

And Ashton is going to help out with that how?

Well it's nice to know that Mischa Barton has a champion in Ashton Kutcher. At yesterday's Television Critics Association press tour, Ashton Kutcher said that "[Mischa] was never unavailable for a day of work...Mischa's in New York working today." Kutcher is the producer of Mischa's show The Beautiful Life.

Ashton went on to day, "The great thing about Mischa for this show is we have a lot of young cast. She's done it before. On The O.C. she was one of the leads in this big soap opera."

He'd also like us to believe that she's not going anywhere. "[Mischa's role] is very prominent. She's one of our lead players."

Seeing that Mischa was out partying in New York City over the weekend, let's just hope she stays a little more focused on the job that's paying her bills.

Celebrity gossip can be a dirty, dirty business, and some are working to make it even dirtier. Reuters reports that British police are investigating a claim that journalists at Rupert Murdock's British newspaper were conspiring to hack into the phones of celebrities, legislators, and even public figures.

Among those targeted by the mag were Jude Law, who is currently in London starring in an amazing revival of Hamlet, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, Elle Macpherson, and former British deputy prime minister John Prescott. Apparently, reporters at News of the World were working with private investigators to access the cell phones of these celebs and publish anything they heard that seemed of interest in their tabloids.

The British police are taking this very seriously, as it brings up more debate about the ethics of British tabloids, which seem to have seen magazine sales falling since the internet.

New International, the ones who wanted to hack the phones, have already paid $1.6 million to settle court cases for three people that had their phones hacked.

New of the World has already been able to intercept voicemail messages and have also gotten access to personal things like phone bills and bank statements. Apparently, 31 reporters from News of the World and The Sun were able to get all this information through blagging, which is a form of deception where one person pretends to be another person to get information from banks and phone companies.  

Well, isn't it nice to know that we here at Socialite Life would never engage in anything like that? Frankly, it just takes far too much effort. And poor Jude Law. Here he is, being a super baller Hamlet, and then they gotta do all this to him. He should turn Shakespearean on them and stab with a poisoned rapier. Let's see how they like that!

Officially stepping out as the newest members of the CW network family, the cast of the new Melrose Place had a coming-out of sorts on the red carpet. Leading the pack was former Seventh Heaven star Ashlee Simpson, who's returning to the network in this new iteration of the 90s TV soap.

Also, the original redheaded vixen from the first version of the series, Laura Leighton, was flanked by her younger costars who she'll end up teaching a thing or two about devilish plotting.

If someone doesn't end up in the pool in her sister's wedding dress by the end of season one, I'll be sorely disappointed. Let the scheming and double-crossing begin!

Looks like Guy Ritchie might have found a way to outdo his cradle-robbing ex-wife Madonna, who is rumored to have moved in with her 22-year-old Brazilian model boyfriend, Jesus Luz.

The film director was seen leaving the Notting Hill Brasserie restaurant wearing a huge smile on his face after a dinner with Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson.

The couple chatted with one another until 12:30 a.m., exiting the eaterie separately but each wearing matching smiles. Since his divorce from Madonna, Guy has been romantically-linked to Kelly Reilly, Lauren Meek, millionaire heiress Jemima Khan and now it looks like the object of his affection is none other than the supermodel known at her prime as "The Body." Someone's going to put in a good 8 hours in the gym tomorrow after hearing this news. Someone whose arms already look like angry pythons.

Check this one out. 45-year-old survivor of the model wars Elle MacPherson got all sorts of aquatically active yesterday in Sydney Harbor. Elle whipped her hair around, bared her body in a bikini during a relaxing swim, and water skied her hot cougar ass across the water. She seems a little more coordinated on the water than on land.

You know, the photo captions that accompanied this set made some sort of comment about her ass having cellulite, but someone needs to smack the captioner upside the head. Bitch looks fine in a 'kini. What is that person talking about? Damn, someone's picky when it comes to ass.
