Zac Efron's Worst Audition Made Him Cry

Share

He seems so composed on the red carpet in his Burberry suit for the screening of his film, Me and Orson Welles, it's hard to imagine Zac Efron experiencing an audition so bad that it brought tears to his eyes. However, the High School Musical star admits that his initial foray into acting was so unsuccessful that it brought tears to his eyes.

Zac--who co-stars in Me and Orson Welles with Claire Danes--recently explained that the worst audition for his career was for the role of Peter Pan in a live action show. At the age of 15, Efron showed up and says his audtion consisted of "running around and jumping off my chair, singing the lines."

Efron explains, "This woman interrupted me and goes 'you've never done this before have you?' and I went 'no' and she went 'okay you can go' and that was the worst audition ever, ever in my life."

Someone who can't relate is star of Precious, Gabourey Sidibe, who recently revealed on Oprah Winfrey's talk show that she snagged the critically-acclaimed movie role when she walked in to auditions on a whim. Along with Amber Rose, Hugh Dancy and Lydia Hearst all showed up at the screening to lend their support to the cast and crew of Me and Orson Welles for the event.

Tim Burton's Films Honored At MoMa In NYC

Share

Showing off their shared love of black and all things gothic, celebrity couple Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton showed up looking all kinds of pale-skinned and mysterious at The Museum of Modern Art Film Benefit: A Tribute to Tim Burton in New York.

Naturally, Tim's BFF, Johnny Depp, was there to support the director, his longtime collaborator and friend. Johnny opted for his traditional three-piece suit, leaving the tie at home, naturally. He and Patti Smith posed for photos, making for an all-black couple dripping in cool.

The Olsen twins showed up wearing their trademark multiple layers, each carrying an oversized bag in hand. Mary Kate Olsen went for a splashier look, with her super-defined lipstick, cheetah-print coat and black hat, while Ashley Olsen kept her bright blue dress under a black jacket, with just her bright yellow pumps peeking out underneath.

Both Rose Byrne from Damages and New Moon star, Ashley Greene, opted for a frock that was both black, sexy and short. While Rose kept things sheer and sparkly, Ashley favored a more flirty style, showing off her bare legs and long, dark locks.

Gabby Sidibe Admits Her Undying Love For NSync

The 26-year-old star of Precious: Based On The Novel Push by Sapphire, Gabourey Sidibe admitted a dirty little secret to Conan O'Brien on his late night talk show. Giggling uncontrollably, the adorable star admitted that as a teen, she was a huge fan of NSYNC. In fact, she described her love for them as "pretty fanatical."

Sidibe confessed that she has attended a total of 23 concerts, knows all of the guys' birthdays and has purchased so much of their merchandise over the years that, "Like all their houses, I bought them because I just spend that much money on them."

Gabourey made sure to stress that she was 16-years-old at the time, still an impressionable young teen. And these days, she's looking plenty grown as she sports a black satin dress at the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Inaugural Governors Awards held at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles.

A little of new Hollywood was there, but most of them were over at the MOCA gala Saturday night. For the first time since the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts and Science's Board of Governors began bestowing their Honorary Award and The Irving G, Thalberg Awards, instead of presenting them during the LiveOscar telecast, this year the Governors Awards were handed out to Producer John Calley, actress Lauren Bacall, producer-director Roger Corman, and cinematographer Gordon Willis, along with 600 invited guests in attendance, at the Grand Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Saturday night.

The Honorary Award, an Oscar statuette, is given to an individual for "extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.

Those on hand to honor Bacall and Corman were Tom Hanks, Jack Nicholson, Angelica Houston, Gabby Sidibe, Virginia Madsen, Warren Beatty, Annett Bening, Quentin Tarantino, Jeff Bridges, Alec Baldwin, Abbie Cornish, Morgan Freeman, Ron Howard, Amy Smart, Maria Bello, Jennifer Tilly, Meg Tilly, Sally Kellerman, Marisa Tomei, Tom Ford, Nia Vardalos, Vera Farmiga and Dana Delany.

'Precious' Charms The Box Office

Share

Critical reviews of the independent film darling, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, have earned the film high praise at both Cannes and the Toronto Film Festival, along with an endorsement by talk show host, Oprah Winfrey.

However, there was concern that the movie's dark subject matter wouldn't be able able to lure movie goers into theaters. With Precious earning an average of $100,000 from 18 screens in four cities, the future of the Lee Daniels-directed film looks anything but grim.

But then again, it has Mariah Carey in a mustache, which is hard--if not impossible--to pass up.

Inside every Gay Man Is a Soul Sister Waiting to Come Out!

This year ladies and gentle ladies (hee hee, did you catch the reference to girly men??), it looks like we have our vicarious candidate!

Gabourey Sidibe is the Oscar buzzed up star of the Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry produced, and Lee Daniels directed, film adaption of the book, Push: Based On The Novel By Sapphire, titled Precious, now playing in theaters.

In an interview with Black Book Magazine, Gabourey "Gabby", talks about meeting Oprah for the first time, not wanting to disappoint director Lee Danials, and what kind of first impression co-star Mariah Carey really makes.

"I felt immense pressure to do justice to Sapphire's story. I hate when adaptations get it wrong. Precious was Sapphire's baby. I also felt responsibility to Lee Daniels, who chose me from obscurity and put me in the same room as Helen Mirren, Halle Berry, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. [all of whom had been in talks to star in the film]. Helen Mirren didn't end up doing it, because she got a real offer that paid her money instead of chicken wings."

Check the attitude people?? SUPER STAR POTENTIAL!

"The first time I saw her [Mariah Carey] was at Lee Daniels' apartment. She walked in and behind her I saw a trail of glitter and diamonds--but that's my perception of her, because she's Mariah."

With Mo'nique and Mariah by By Gabby's side?? Oh yeah. Soul. Sister. Status.

'Precious' Premieres In Hollywood With A Splash

Share

It certainly looks like the premiere of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the place to be last night, with Mary J. Blige singing to celebrate the event. Oprah Winfrey looked tickled pink as she mixed and mingled with director, Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Gabourey Sidibe.

I have to admit, Star Jones, actually looked damn good in her jewel-toned, deep blue dress. Another lady stepping out in a bold color was Garcelle Beauvais, whose frock matched the red carpet, as well as the gown worn by the film's big star, Gabourey Sidibe.

Gabourey's co-star, Mo'Nique looked fabulous in her sparkly gold, strapless gown. The actress is getting rave reviews for her performance in the film and will most likely be walking down the red carpet for the Oscars. She better keep her calendar free this awards season.
