Here it goes again!
Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince open Wednesday, July 15 at midnight, and what a midnight showing it was. The film earned $22.2 million for its midnight opening, beating the previous record held by
The Dark Knight, which made $18.5 million.
We won't know until the end of the day if Harry Potter also beat The Dark Knight's single day record of $67.1 million, but I'm willing to bet it's going to be high up there.
According to Reuters, some of the media have speculated that the fan base for the films, made up of mostly teens and pre-teens, may feel too old for the films. That's bullshit. I was at the midnight showing and it wasn't just teens and pre-teens. It was teens, pre-teens, adults, young adults, mother with their kids, fathers with their kids, and even some who looked like they should be in a nursing home. Ooo, that was mean.
Anyway, people are obsessed with these films (
the Vatican loved it!) and it my opinion will keep watching them until there aren't anymore, which is actually happening quite soon, but we don't like to talk about it. So far, the
Potter films have made over $4.5 billion worldwide since 2001, and it doesn't look like there will be any stopping them now.
