However Taylor Swift was not there, but she's apparently incredibly popular. She beat out Michael Jackson to win Entertainer of the Year and took home a total of five American Music Awards.

The highlight of the night for me was Whitney Houston's performance of "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." While the rasp was present throughout the performance, the girl knows how to command a stage. She belted out the performance until she was almost out of breath. It was a powerful moment.



Michel Jackson ended up with four awards. Other multiple winners included hip-hop acts Jay-Z and the Black Eyed Peas, with two each.

The Black Eyed Peas were named favorite group in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. Jay-Z won favorite male artist and favorite album in the rap/hip-hop categories.

Punk rock trio Green Day was named favorite alternative artist. Rascal Flatts won favorite country group for the fourth year in a row.

Since Janet Jackson knew she had the opening of the 2009 American Music Awards resting on her shoulders, it should come as no surprise that she donned a pair of metallic shoulder pads for the occasion.

Miss Jackson (cause I'm nasty) let her hair down and flaunted her girls in a low-cut light brown suede ensemble that kept the pop star relatively covered up, save for a hefty slice of cleavage.

When she wasn't gritting her teeth, she flashed her trademark smile after a performance well-done. Here's to Janet!

LaToya Jackson isn't the only member of the Jackson family voicing her suspicions that Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, caused the death of the King of Pop. In an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts, Janet Jackson expresses her belief that Murray should be held accountable for Michael's passing. In other words, she's not dancing around the subject, unlike in this performance at The Grove in Los Angeles with her flash mob. (Pun totally intended.)

Janet says, "He was the one that was administering." She adds, "I think he is responsible." Janet also remembers how she learned the news of Michael's death. After speaking with all of her members of the family, Janet waited. She said, "I told them to call me when they got to the hospital. And I remember thinking, nobody's calling me back, so I tried calling again, and that's how I found out that he was no longer."

But it's clear that his spirit lives on in her performances. Can't wait to see her opening sequence at the American Music Awards this Sunday!

Janet Jackson is embarking on a huge comeback. Following her appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, and with her forthcoming appearance at the American Music Awards in which she'll open the show, Miss Jackson appears to be back.

With her Number Ones greatest hits album being released this coming Tuesday, October 17, she made a surprise appearance at the Grove, as seen here in the photos, this past Saturday. She was there to witness a flashmob dance to some of her greatest hits.

Janet Jackson will open the 37th annual AMA's this year, a year which might have been Michael's big comeback year.

Michael Jackson will receive five posthumous American Music Award nominations, so it only seems fitting that a Jackson should open up the ceremonies.  She's the obvious choice since, let's face it, Janet is the Jackson with the highest potential to hold it together and not weird-out in this highly prestigious setting.

AMA producer Larry Klein expressed he is, "thrilled about having Janet Jackson open this year's show," which is rumored to include, "an eight minute medley of songs," which will surely honor big brother, Michael as a tribute.   Career-wise the timing could not be better as Ms. Jackson is set to release a two-disc singles collections titled Number Ones as well as a new album, "slated to be released in 2010."

Now thin-again Janet has 9 AMA awards under her belt and has performed at the Awards on three other occasions.

To represent the full spectra of artist personalities, 21 AMA Award recipient Whitney Houston will also be performing, and will receive the "International Artist Award."  Shakira, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood, and Green Day are also set to perform.

In yet another black outfit Rihanna attended the Jean-Paul Gaultier - Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 show with friend Katy Perry (rumored new boyfriend Russell Brand was no where to be seen).

That wasn't the only star power at the Gaultier show. Catherine Deneuve, Boris Berghann, Carine Roltfeld, Dita Von Teese and Janet Jackson also attended.

What did Jean-Paul feature on the runway this season? He mixed his trademark lingerie-as-outerwear look with hip-hop inspired streetwear, layering powder pink bras, garters, bustiers and padded and pointy prostheses of all ilk under and over extra-wide jeans, funky overalls and military coats.

Janet Jackson looked gorgeous on the red carpet as she attended the amFAR (Foundation for Aids Research) event at the La Permanent during Milan Fashion Week last night.

The singer posed with designer Donatella Versace who Janet is a big fan of. The designer designed outfits for the entire Jackson family to wear at Michael Jackson's public memorial this summer.

Donatella threw a huge dinner part for 150 family and friends earlier in the evening, including Janet, 43, and her beau Jermaine Dupri.

Janet recently praised the fashionista in an interview, saying: 'Donatella is just a sweet, nurturing woman.'

Also in attendance were Linda Evangelista, Chanel Iman, Kanye West, Amber Rose, Dita Von Teese, Rachel Bilson, Alek Wek, Nicole Chavez, Roberta Armani, Dean and Dan Caten.

Well, well, well. The previously thought to have broken up couple of Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri looks like that may be together again (pun intended).

Other than kind of derailing her music career over the span of her last few albums, he seems good for her emotionally.

After checking out the Ralph Lauren show during New York Fashion Week, Janet Jackson is in Milan checking out the Armani show during Milan's Fashion Week.

The singer is spending the week in Milan ahead of a charity dinner she is chairing next week. I'm sure she's enjoying the downtime after performing at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards for the Michael Jackson tribute.
