Even though he's currently holding the title for number one album with the release of Battle Studies, John Mayer still isn't as happy as he could be. The singer continually laments the public nature of his high-profile relationships and claims that he's not really the heartbreaking lothario he's made out to be.

Mayer tells the New York Times, "It's crazy to me that in my head, that being 32 and dating women is going to get me in trouble." He adds, "I should be having sex with more girls."

I agree. Because if he's busy having sex, then he won't have any free time to make mediocre music.

That's what I took away from his recent New York Times interview.

John Mayer moaned to the Times on Friday that dating is a "nightmare" with his constant media spotlight (funny coming from a summa cum laude graduate of the school of 'Look at me! Look at me!'), and in the same breath referenced the millions of young ladies who would gladly hit that.  It's no wonder people think he's a douche.

The writer, while acknowledging that Mayer is a great guitar player, pretty much called his new album, "Battle Studies", the same boring old crap (really, really nicely, of course) and managed to get him to admit that his soft-rock career is as risky as a paper cut.

"There's nothing I've done musically that's been a wild misstep," he said. "Basically, you're saying, can you risk failure? And that's something that I'm struggling with right now, because in my life, I would like to do something in music that risks a misstep."

John has plenty of time to think about it while his new album makes besquillions of dollars.

I used to work in Soho where Mayer lives (death to the bourgeoisie!) and came very close to pushing him down the subway stairs.  All New Yorkers know never to stand in front of the subway entrance!  People are in a hurry, douche!  Sorry, I had to get that off my chest.

It's looking as if singer John Mayer is going to have the Number One album with a bullet next week on Billboard's 200 chart. Battle Studies is on track to sell between 275,000 and 300,000 copies. This would be John's second number one album, his first was 2003's Heavier Things.

The top five is shaping up to be John Mayer at number one, the Counting Crows at number two, 50 Cent at number three, Norah Jones at number four and Justin Beiber and Kris Allen battling it out for the fifth spot.

There's a new couple alert out on Parks and Recreation star, Rashida Jones, and notorious lothario, John Mayer. Rumors are circulating that the twosome spent a romantic Friday evening out at the Chateau Marmont.

A snitch claims, "John took the guitar from someone who was performing at the Chateau and performed an impromptu performance for Rashida... The crowd went wild when he performed his new song."

This scenario must have rung hilariously familiar for Jones, whose character, Ann recently kicked out her guitar-wielding boyfriend, Andy, (played by Chris Pratt) earlier this season on P&R.

In an interview about the show, Rashida chatted about the possibility of a reconciliation between her character and that of her on-screen ex-boyfriend. Jones explains, "I think there's still love in Ann's heart for Andy. I think so much would have to change for him to be OK with her. But I don't think it's an impossibility."

But back to John, a witness at their date claims that he dedicated a rendition of "Your Body is a Wonderland" to his date. Aww, how green of him to keep recycling that tune for purposes of seduction.

Although they are no longer dating, Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer are reportedly doing their darnedest to remain friends post-breakup.

A snitch tells People magazine that the two have been hanging out as friends after their most recent and seemingly final split. The source claims, "They've been talking for a while--they're very friendly."

Last month, the couple were spotted at the Bowery Hotel in New York City. A witness reports, "She was in casual clothing as was he, and she seemed very comfortable around his crowd of friends."

Just don't ask him about politics. It's kind of a touchy subject with that one.

When John Mayer ran into Vulture from New York Magazine, he came off a bit cranky, to say the least. Mayer bristled at the interviewer's questions about his opinon on President Barack Obama's recent acceptance of a Nobel Peace Prize.

When asked his overall opinion on the matter, John replied, "Do you think I'm smart enough to be able to articulate to you why our president receiving the Nobel Peace Prize is a bit early for things? What's your overall opinion?" The singer added, "If you don't know who else should have gotten it instead of Obama, I love you, you're beautiful, but shut your fucking mouth."

Eventually, talk shifted to John's music, most specifically his upcoming album, set to be released in November. The interchange wrapped with Mayer declaring, "I'm going to forcefully sodomize your editor."

Oh my, he's such a sweet talker, that one.
