ASL's Exclusive Interview With The Last Goodnight

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/09/lastgoodnight_092607_01-thumb.jpg

You may not have heard of a band called The Last Goodnight (probably because their name used to be Renata, changed due to frequent mispronunciation as "Ratata"), but this six-member pop band from Connecticut has certainly been hitting the right notes in Europe: their last album, Poison Kiss, debuted at number two in the UK and number three in Italy. And now, they've got their sites set on the U.S.

The band's lead singer describes their sound in terms of cinematic musical influence:

"It's Tom Hanks in Castaway because he's lost and lonely, somehow stumbling across Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, because the music has a sultry sexiness, then there's a healthy dose of soul like Pam Grier in Foxy Brown, but touched with a bit of dark strangeness from Clockwork Orange."

Although rumored to have another album in the works, the boys of The Last Goodnight--lead singer Kurtis John, lead guitarist Mike Nadeau, guitarist/vocalist Anton Yurack, pianist/vocalist Ely Rise, bassist Leif Christensen and drummer Larone "Skeeter" McMillan--are currently gearing up to open for ex-American Idol contestant Elliot Yamin in a new international tour that will kick off in Chicago on October 5.

A Socialite's Life was lucky enough to steal some time away from The Last Goodnight lead singer Kurtis John to chat about life, music and the band, in an interview after the jump...

ASL Attends Cartel and Honorary Title Concert

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/09/cartel_092107_01-thumb.JPG

I was recently invited by Chris Black and Cartel to attend a show as a follow-up to the interview I did with them not too long ago to help promote their new album. This concert was held in the Newport music hall in Columbus Ohio and the guys did not disappoint.

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/09/cartel_092107_05-thumb.JPGThey played to a packed house of all ages, somehow managing to keep the energy up for the duration of the concert--which lasted over three hours. Upon arriving, I was invited to come aboard the tour bus to sit with Will and the rest of the guys while they played Xbox 360 and traded war stories. As you can see, it's a small space, but they didn't let the cramped quarters get in their way of having a good time. A little known fact that I got from our conversation is that the guys like to unwind with a round of golf first thing in the morning.

Honorary Title opened for Cartel, and proved themselves to be a solid band from Brooklyn NY. Prior to the show, I wasn't familiar with them or their music, but was soon impressed by their up-tempo pace and audience interaction. Then about an hour and a half after the doors opened, Cartel hit the stage. They started off their set with some of their older songs, with the crowd of fans singing along to the tried-and-true crowd-pleasers. They also threw a few covers in the mix, delivering a flawless rendition of Wonderwall originally by Oasis.

More on the Cartel and Honorary Title Concert after the jump.

ASL's Exclusive Interview With Cartel

Cartel could very well be the pied pipers for a new generation of kids hungry for music deeper than gold chains, or big cars. Writing music about morals, love, and moving on - Cartel has been able to capture what human emotion is and evoke a crowd to just move. Issuing a challenge to their cohorts, Will Pugh calls out "pop punk today isn't going anywhere--let's make some moves."

Already being tour veterans, Cartel already has a solid and devoted fan base. Cartel quickly garnered a devoted and noticeably growing fan base with a reputation for being one of the most fun, genuine, talented bands around. When Alternative Press compiled their 2005 list of "Bands You Need to Know."

Why haven't you heard of them? You have - you've sung "Lose it," or "Honestly." You've seen their pictures, and laughed along with some of their music. You just didn't realize these boys from Conyers, Georgia aren't asking for your attention, they're taking it whether you like it or not, and will continue to rock in the name of good music. We here at ASL we're lucky enough to get Will Pugh from Cartel to sit down with us, and give us some time!

Resident Evil: Extinction Exclusive!

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/08/RESIDENTEVIL3mini-thumb.JPGBrowsing through the email today at A Socialite's Life we came across a music exclusive. The 100 million dollar Resident Evil franchise is coming out with another movie. Resident Evil: Extinction looks to be the biggest and baddest of them all. Aside from a smoking hot Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil has had some of the heaviest and hardest soundtracks of all movie franchises. We here at A Socialite's Life got the exclusive first single, and what could be the theme song to the new movie! The song is from acclaimed remixers The Legion of Doom and they deliver a stunning reworking of Flyleaf's near platinum hit song "I'm So Sick" (T-Virus Remix).

Also on the soundtrack is exclusive to Resident Evil: Extinction. Featured artists include Shadows Fall ("Stupid Crazy"), Chimaira ("Paralyzed"), Throwdown (I, Suicide), Poison the Well ("Wrecking Itself, Taking You With Me") and Rammstein offshoot Emigrate ("New World"). There are also selections of original score composed by Charlie Clouser (NIN, Rob Zombie and Saw I-IV).

The soundtrack also contains specially crafted remix versions of works by Bayside ("Duality" - Project Alice String Remix), Emanuel ("Sceneotaph" - DJA Infected Remix), The Bled ("Asleep On The Frontlines" - Appliantz Remix) and Collide offer the alternate remixed cover of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit". The song of course references the themed lyric "go ask Alice".

Listen to "I'm So Sick."

ASL's Exclusive Interview With Paramore

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/06/paramore_062607_03-thumb.jpg

If I told you a band debuted in the UK ahead of My Chemical Romance, Paul McCartney, and Fergie you'd think they were a mega band releasing a new single. You'd be partially right, It is a mega band... you just haven't bought their record yet to put them there. Paramore, a band from Franklin Tennessee, has been the next big thing for the past few years. Meeting up in school in Tennessee at a young age, they grew from a Funk/Soul cover band with Doobie Brothers and Chaka Khan on their playlists, to headlining the Warped Tour. Yet, with their new release of RIOT! They look to squash the "Next Big Thing" and be the "thing" everyone listens to. With riffs that rival some of the most recent summer anthems, to lyrics that evoke even some of the most complicated emotion you'll find yourself regretting you've not heard them sooner. Now here is the big kicker, Most of the band isn't even legal to drink yet, but you'll still find yourself in your cars, on your iPods, with your mixed CD's with this band in mind. So, Hayley (the vocalist) granted Socialitelife an interview, and here it is!!!

Josh: Thank you so much for granting our website this interview Hayley!

Hayley (paramore): It's no problem! The site is awesome! It's so crazy how many readers you guys have!

Josh: Well, Thank you. I do have to get the canned questions out for our readers first. How did your band come together at such a young age?

Hayley: I met Zac and Josh who are brothers in I guess it was 2002. I was 13 years old going on 14, and Zac and Josh came up to me at school. We were at a really small school, maybe 90 kids in the whole thing. They came up to me and basically said, "Hey you look like you love our style of music". They were really outgoing, and it was really easy to get along with them. Our friendships were really built on mixed cds. Zac would bring me cd's with Jimmy eat world, and it was a totally different side of music. Jeremy was the oldest of us, he was like 16. Maybe a little older, and he was playing bass in a cover band. We all just grew up together. Now we're all just in one big sleepover pretty much.

ASL's Exclusive Interview With Tyrese Gibson

1202 Tyrese B

Tyrese Gibson recently has been everywhere. You've seen him in Annapolis, Waist Deep, and soon to come Transformers. He's got an album out Alter-Ego which shows of the silky smooth side of Tyrese, and the Black-Ty that really shocked many in the music world. Tyrese Gibson is a triple threat as an actor, musician and a model he can break down even the strongest of people in many ways. Even more recently he's gotten himself more into the spot light and the light has become so bright on him, he's gained second billing in the largest summer blockbuster in years. Mr. Gibson has found the bigtime and found it in a big way. We at socialitelife were lucky enough to sit down with Tyrese for a 1 on 1 and to really get into his head!

Josh (ASL): Hiya Tyrese! How are you doin man? I know I caught you out on tour and all.

Tyrese: It's going good all man. Shows have been sold out, so when it's going it's been goin.

Josh: Alright, well lets break it right down man. You're a good actor, a musician and a model that women just flat out drool over. What is it like to be doing all three of those things at the same time?

Tyrese: It's nice. I love it. It's about getting it out of your system. When you're born with talent you try to get it out of your system. So many people do one thing because they make money at it. I'm beyond money, I'm just not motivated by money. At the beginning you want money to get by, but once you get a little into your pocket you lose that thirst for money and you do it to make yourself better. I do it for the challenge. I want to be the best.

Josh: What motivated you then to make a rap album then, as Black-Ty?

Tyrese: I used to rhyme in a rap group called triple impact, long before I did singing. This was even before my coke commercial. So I just pushed the hip hop thing to the side just so I could travel and do my thing R&B wise. Hip hop has always been in me and I just had to let it out.

ASL's Exclusive Interview With The Bravery

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/04/1508144965_l-thumb.jpg

The Bravery have spent the past two years planning operations, obsessively working up their wire-y garage-electronics, and occasionally venturing out into the city to play the results. They've played everywhere from the Lower East side all over NYC slowly growing a huge fan base. In that time, the Bravery -- singer/guitarist Sam Endicott, guitarist Michael Zakarin, bassist Mike H, keyboardist John Conway, and drummer Anthony Burulcich -- had honed their sound to a dark garage-electro and made sure everyone knew what they were all about.

Josh (ASL): Thanks for taking the time to talk to us guys!! You're a super hip rock band from NYC, how did The Bravery take roots? Inspirations? Dish!

Bravery: Well, we'd all got together early on, and it was natural and quick. We've always done everything on our own. So there hasn't been a lot in way of inspiration. The only real inspiration is classic rock, so that is really where we get some of our ideas I guess.

ASL's Exclusive Interview With Halifax

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/04/halifax_041907_02-thumb.jpg

Yeah, yeah. You know it already. Halifax can really party. Hell, even the old bag in the cubicle next to you probably knows them from their stint on The Real World Austin. But what's decidedly more important is that the Thousand Oaks, California-reared quintet's music translates. Just ask the million plus visitors to the band's PureVolume page. But better proof lies with the band's crackling debut album, "The Inevitability of a Strange World," which finds frontman Mike Hunau, guitarists Chris Brandt and Adam Charles, bassist Doug Peyton and drummer Tommy Guindon at a distinct advantage over other booze-swilling, excess-extolling rising stars. Sure, many have tried through the years, but few bands have managed to bridge the great divide between rock, punk and metal with their hooks, hearts and hopes intact the way these electric warriors have. We were lucky enough to get on the tour bus with Halifax and ask them a few questions!

Josh: How did you guys form the band? You've been around for a bit, but tell me the story of your guys getting together?

Adam: Chris and Mike, were in a local band from Thousand Oaks, California called Halifax. I had known Chris from high school, and I'd been his best friend since forever. There was a band that Chris and Mike were in that they wanted to take to a professional level, which is where I came in. Ha! Just we were some like-minded guys that wanted to take it to the next level.

Celebrities Always Get the Perks

Hayden P 041407 01

Even free gum for a year.

Celebrities always have their perks. This month, there is a new IT celebrity thing. Celebrities such as Hayden Panettiere, and Milo Ventimiglia have been seen with their new Stride Gum "Sweet Peppermint" flavor. Stride picked a group of celebrities that they thought were worthy of ridiculously long lasting success, and deemed them VIP. Last year Kelly Clarkson, and Jessica Alba, they were given a year supply for being a VIP. This year, Milo has ordered a year supply and Hayden has already called in about hers. The real question is, Stride is ridiculously long lasting, but can it save the cheerleader, and save the world?

Chew some and be like the celebrities! If it gets me this much closer to the pants of Hayden, I'm already chewing it. Yea.. it's jail time. But.. she's so hot, and Sweet Pepperminty now.

"The Tripper": ASL's Exclusive Interview with David Arquette

http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com/images/2007/04/arquette_041307_01-thumb.JPG

On 4-20, Hippies' heads will roll...No, seriously! They will! And not in some ecstasy, drug-trip, either. That was the original tagline from the directorial debut from David Arquette. David, no newbie to horror flicks, wanted to take his first step out as director in a classy, creative, sometimes over-the-top way that was uniquely his own. He spared no expense and took no short-cut to create in his mind, a trippy horror film that will be fun for people to see, and pays homage to the kings of horror like King and Hitchcock.

Jack from Paper Street Films says of Arquette's film:

"How does one label David Arquette's directorial debut? Possibly awe-inspiring? No, too vague. I've got it...this film is a brilliantly executed, politically-charged, homicidal satire of our generation.

David has created a new breed of a horror film. I'd liken "The Tripper" to early works by cult fave, George Romero. This film knocked my socks off. Crisp dialogue, great characters and enough scares to send shivers down your spine. Seriously.

The story, from my perspective, is a throwback to classic 70's and 80's horror romps fused with the trickle down ideals that Reagan gave to us."

Intrested yet? Let's get to the interview, then...

Josh Martin: Hi David. Thanks for giving me this time, and since it's short, let's jump right to it. Give us the real quick lowdown on the movie.

David Arquette: Well it's a group of drugged-out hippies that go out to the redwood forest for a weekend long concert, that get hunted and attacked by a killer that's obsessed with Ronald Regan. He dresses as Ronald Regan, he's got a killer dog named Nancy and, the hippies are going to pay.
