Dance Show Delisted, Griffin Marches On

Share

Life on the D-List doesn't look so bad.  Kathy Griffin, a self-proclaimed D-Lister, is virtually swimming in work opportunities these days, and even if not all of the offers are exactly panning out, the 49-year-old comic's dance card is almost full.

First, her cult TV show on Bravo, My Life on the D-List has just been renewed for its sixth season.  For those of you who are sensitive to vulgarity and have no gay friends, D-List, "documents the comedian's adventures in Hollywood, where she sometimes gets the star treatment and sometimes does not."  It's hilarious and a guilty pleasure.

On the not-as-bright side, ABC has nixed the November launch of Let's Dance, a reality/competition show Griffin was pegged to host.  The show would have featured, "celebrities attempting to re-create memorable dance routines," musicals and music videos.  I find this missed opportunity a true bummer especially when I envision Kathy, her mom, and the rest of team Griffin recreating the finale dance number from Dirty Dancing, or replicating the choreography from the Thriller video.

Last, and hardly least, the funny lady will be guest-starring in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit this February, in which "she will play a lesbian activist."  Of course she plans to prepare for her role in the method acting technique.

Life on the D-List seems so fine that even if invited to the C or even B-List, Griffin might just want to stick with D and sit pretty.

Kathy Griffin Celebrates Her B-Day & Wants You To Dance

Share

There's yet another dance competition series being added to the primetime television lineup with the announcement that ABC will premiere Let's Dance.

The series is set to be hosted by none other than the sharp-tongued comedian, Kathy Griffin, and is described by Entertainment Weekly as "a weekly dance-off featuring celebs performing classic dance routines from movies, musicals and music videos." The potential for glitter-encrusted costumes is unlimited.

Speaking of amazing outfits, how about this festive little number Kathy is sporting at her birthday celebration at The Abbey? Oh wait, or is this Kathy Lee Gifford?

Sarah Palin Tears Levi Johnston A New One

Share

Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but this isn't exactly the juiciest of political catfights.

People.com reports that Levi Johnston had some choice words about his ex-mother-in-law, Sarah Palin, whom he claims referred to her son as 'retarded' (little Trig has Down's syndrome), and implied that this was just the tip of the iceberg of juicy dirt he has on her.

Palin shot back with a statement of her own, tagging Johnston as the attention-whore he really is by saying "those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention."

Day-um!  I loathe to agree with the ex-governor, but we're talking about a kid who squired Kathy Griffin to the Teen Choice Awards, posed for topless pictures in GQ with his baby, and is currently planning to pose for Playgirl.

Anyone who makes the disgraced former governor of Alaska look good needs to rethink some choices.

FOX News Confuses Kathy Griffin With Kathy Lee Gifford

Share

Granted, it's my opinion that fact-checking is for the birds, but I'm not a journalist. In an article on the FOX News website, quotes from Kathy Griffin currently promoting her new book, Official Book Club Selection, were mistakenly attributed to Kathy Lee Gifford. Ha! Glorious!

Sadly, the quotes concerning politics were corrected, effectively destroying the hilarity. Griffin's quote to Entertainment Tonight was, "Hollywood hates on Republicans because they feel the Republicans and conservatives are about repression and Hollywood is about expression. That sounds kind of smart."

This segues into a quote from wacky daytime talk show host, Gifford, who recently said of President Barack Obama, "I would like to see him listen more to Middle America. They're trying to have their voice heard but they're being dismissed as a mob or Astroturf or different things."

Here's the Cliff Notes version, FOX News: Kathy Lee Gifford is the one slowly driving Hoda Kotb completely insane and Kathy Griffin is the one surrounded by a mob of admiring gays with multiple Emmys soldered to the hood of her car.

2009 Emmy Awards Red Carpet: Ladies

Share

Padma Lakshmi is a reality television siren in a flirty, figure-hugging purple dress accented with what I'm going to refer to as a red garnish on her hips. Stunning Ugly Betty star, Vanessa Williams, also opted for a brightly-colored ensemble and was gorgeous in turquoise.

House star, Olivia Wilde, is a vision in a sheer, white lace gown that flaunts her trim figure. Just as radiant is her co-star, Lisa Edelstein, whose midnight-blue and white frock really brings out her eyes.

It's hard to tell whether or not Alyson Hannigan's strapless, A-line number is a dark, dark blue, or black. One thing is for sure--it's very flattering in the many layers, much like her hairstyle.

Looking angelic, with long, blond hair, Saving Grace star, Holly Hunter looks fabulous. Her critically-acclaimed series is one that sadly won't be returning to TV for another season. Hmm, this seems to be a theme these days...

It was sparkles and glamour on the red carpet at this years young crop of Diva's at VH1's Divas Live concert. The ladies showed how there is no age limit for a diva. Kathy Griffin gave some advice to the up-and-comers.

On-the-way-up stars "had better grow a nice thick skin -- and also stay thin," comedian Kathy Griffin suggests. "That's essential in Hollywood: thick skin and thin bodies."

Isaac Mizrahi Collection Flaunts Sparkles On & Off The Catwalk

Share

As audacious as she is in her act, Kathy Griffin, looked all kinds of low-key and polished in the front row at Isaac Mizrahi's Spring 2010 collection fashion show in New York. The comedian opted for a simple black dress with a shiny silver clutch and a few sparkles around her neckline.

Looking as demure as can be, Anna Wintour donned a simple midnight-blue dress suit and left her sunglasses in her purse and Joy Bryant was sweet in an all-black ensemble and her hair loose.

As for the fashions themselves, the evening gowns reportedly stood out among the pieces. Executive fashin director of Style.com tells ABC News, "He knows Palm Beach glamor. You could almost see the lawn and the well-groomed women at a party."

Cheers to that.

Tina Fey & Selena Gomez Triumphant At Creative Arts Emmys

Share

The cast of the Wizards of Waverly Place rejoiced with a win in the category of children's programming, resulting in an Emmy trophy for its young star, Selena Gomez.

The event, hosted by multiple Emmy award-winner, Kathy Griffin, took place Saturday evening. Tina Fey took home yet another statue, but not for her critically acclaimed prime time television series, 30 Rock.

Instead, the former head writer for Saturday Night Live was awarded for her Sarah Palin sketch, while Justin Timberlake was recognized with a win for hosting the NBC sketch comedy show.

As for the red carpet, everyone looked gorgeous--especially Mary Steenburgen in a strapless, purple dress with cascading layers of fabric and Mary Lynn Rajskub whose elegant blue dress was perfectly accessorized with a seriously hot husband.

Kathy Griffin Debuts 'Kate Is Enough' As Kate Gosselin

Share

During her interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Kathy Griffin worked to promote her new book telling the talk show host that her goal is to "out-sell The Bible."

Additionally, the comedian debuted her a clip of her newest role as notorious reality television matriarch, Kate Gosselin from TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8. In the clip, Kathy stars opposite George Takei and she jokes to Jimmy, "It's like my Malcolm X."

As for the real-life ridiculousness that comprises the lives of the dissolving Gosselin brood, Jon Gosselin's girlfriend, Hailey Glassman has dumped him, according to In Touch. The magazine claims that the pool party in Vegas was the final straw after he "lied to her about [his relationship] with Kate Major."

Kathy Griffin Does Kate Gosselin, Gets Serious In Her Memoir

Share

In a trailer for a mock biopic, George Takei takes on the role of reality TV star dad, Jon Gosselin, while Kathy Griffin throws on a pair of khakis, a trademark blond-streaked wig and a frustrated facial expression for her pitch-perfect impersonation of mother-of-eight, Kate Gosselin.

The sketch is part of Kathy's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in the comedy segment entitled, Kate is Enough: The Kate Gosselin Story. Kathy's been doing the promotional circuit for her new book, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin.

While the comedienne has a knack for turning even the most earnest of situations into fodder for her comedy act, she reveals a serious side in her book. The redhead discusses her late brother, Kenny, who she claims told had "sexually inappropriate" discussions with her as a child.

Physically abusive to his wife and "in and out of jail," Griffin's brother died shortly after his addiction to drugs took over his existence.

Of her experiences with her troubled sibling, Kathy says, "I think when you have someone like that in your house, one of the things you learn is, you've got to laugh." I think it's safe to say, Kathy's learned how to do just that.
