'This Is It' NYC Premiere Red Carpet

Share

The world is all a-flutter today, what with the Michael Jackson movie, This Is It, premiering in multiple cities across the globe.

Earlier in the day, we took in the red carpet from the Los Angeles premiere and here are some of distinguished attendees, including director, Gayle King and, my personal favorite, publishing impresario, Coco.

Critical reviews are praising the behind-the-scenes look at the choreography and preparation for Jackson's tour 50 concert series at the London's O2 Arena, while lamenting that Jackson never seems to let his guard down around the cameras to reveal a more in-depth look into his personal life.

Gallery Info: Rosie Perez, Ice T, Coco, Michael Urie, Sebastian Stan, Tamara Tunie, Julie Henderson, Russell Simmons, Nikki Blonsky, Carol Alt, Lauren Bush, Sherri Shepard, Nigel Barker, Dreama Walker, Spike Lee, Gayle King, Orianthi and Nile Rodgers at the NYC premiere of This Is It.

It was a windy day at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, but if you were a celebrity, or had a really good publicist, this is where you were at last night. The premiere of Michael Jackson's This Is It was where all of Hollywood was.

Director Kenny Ortega said the film's goal was to "tell a story for the fans."

Creating the film "was powerful. There was laughter, there were tears," Ortega said. "This is not the journey that we thought we'd be on, but we had to do this for the fans. This has been very healing."

Michael's brothers -- Marlon, Randy, Jermaine, Tito and Jackie -- walked the red carpet to support the film, which they said they had not yet seen.

"This is what Michael would like to share, his work. He'd be most proud," Jermaine said. "I want the film to show that with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything."

LaToya Jackson Still Talking

Share

Shut your plastic mouth, LaToya!

The Daily Mail reports on a recent interview LaToya Jackson did defending the privacy of Michael Jackson's children while basically revealing all their business.  Classy.

LaToya speaks in detail about the painful period Prince, 12, Paris, 11, and Blanket, 7, are going through with the recent loss of their father.  Apparently, Paris is dealing with her feelings openly, while Prince and Blanket are grieving silently.  All three are attending therapy and continue their same routine of home schooling, hanging out with their family and nannies, and watching only kid-friendly programming.

LaToya then goes on to yack about how smart they are and how gross the many biological parent claims are.

I'd feel a lot better about LaToya's touching words if it didn't feel like she was parlaying this situation into a stint on Dancing With The Stars.

Or if the attached pictures didn't feel like a photo shoot organized by her.

LaToya Jackson Fears For Her Life

Share

Michael Jackson's highly entertaining sister, LaToya Jackson, is concerned that she could be the target of a murder. LaToya has been vocal about her suspicions that her brother was killed and now believes that as a result, she is in danger for her life.

A source tells the National Enquirer, "La Toya is convinced someone paid Michael's personal physician, Conrad Murray, to kill him because they stood to gain up to $1 billion from his death." The snitch adds, "She is convinced they killed her brother and wouldn't hesitate for a moment to kill her as well."

As a result, LaToya refuses to go out after dark and sticks to crowded restaurants. She apparently believes she knows too much. God love her, but I don't necessarily believe that knowing too much is a problem she needs to worry about. She's kind of the Gob Bluth of the Jackson family.

Michael Jackson's Kids May Be Heading To A&E Reality Show

Share

The A&E (Arts and Entertainment - what a joke) network is producing a show called The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, which focuses on the lives of four of the Jackson brothers (Jackie, Jermaine, Tito and Marlon), and was in the works before the singer's June 25 death. It looks as if Michael Jackson's children, Paris, Blanket and Prince Michael may be appearing on the show.

"Filming is taking place right now," A&E said in the late Wednesday statement. "As production moves forward, it is entirely possible that the brothers' paths will intersect with other members of the Jackson family, who may or may not be included in the finished series. However, we cannot at this point definitively know who else may make an appearance in the series.

Earlier Wednesday A&E stated "They [Michael's children] are not part of the series." Later in the day they said it was "entirely possible" that "other members of the Jackson family" could appear on the show, but it is too soon to know.

Us Weekly reports that eldest sister Rebbie Jackson, 59, who has refused to be in the series (called The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, tentatively set to air in December), "feels Michael would spin in his grave if he knew his kids would be on this show." While Janet, 43, is on board, mom Katherine "is just going along with things," the source continues.

I never thought that I would say this but, Rebbie seems like she's the only sane one in the family. After Michael went to such lengths to protect his children from the spotlight, the family is ready to throw the kids onto the first reality show that comes their way? I guess money runs thicker than blood in the Jackson family.

Michael Jackson's New Song 'This Is It'

Share

Sort of new song we should say. "This Is It," the new single and title track from the late Michael Jackson's upcoming documentary and soundtrack, hit the Internet and radio this morning and is a sweet throwback to his simpler times.

Featuring backing vocals from his brothers, sweeping strings and an easy groove, the midtempo "This Is It" is in the style of the ballads from his Dangerous era, especially "Will You Be There" and "Heal the World." He sounds peaceful as he croons, "This is it, here I stand/I'm the light of the world, I feel grand."

Britney Spears Seeks Inspiration From Michael Jackson

Share

Out on a shopping excursion to Target, Britney Spears picked up a handful of Michael Jackson's CDs. Presumably, the blond singer is hoping to gain some musical insight by listening to some of the late King of Pop's greatest hits.

Britney's newest single, "3," debuted online and is a reference to the sexual practice of ménage à trois. While she might be wearing an angelic white sundress in these pictures here, saucy Brit sings of how "living in sin is the new thing" in her most recent release.

In fact, we're pretty sure the little vixen purposely left her bra at home.

Michael Jackson Tribute Lineup Looks Disappointing

Share

At first, it seemed like the tribute concert planned for September 26 in Vienna, Austria, was going to be a star-studded shindig. But now, Jermaine Jackson has held a press conference to promote the upcoming musical event and it seems that some of the original luster has faded in reference to the lineup.

Jackson told press of Chris Brown's potential participation in the project, "It's just up to what he's going through with his court case right now, but he's definitely going to work that out and be here."

However, reps for both Brown and singer, Mary J. Blige, have flat out denied any plans to perform at the tribute concert. Additionally, Natalie Cole might not be able to take to the stage either as the result of a scheduling conflict. In fact, Cole recently confirmed to TMZ that she will not be performing.

The performers confirmed for the event--for which VIP tickets are running up to $745--include Sister Sledge, Akon and German boy band US5. Hmmm, so yeah. It ain't looking so great.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking that if Jermaine could apply some of the magic that is keeping his hair looking so amazing and plastic towards snagging some decent artists, he might be able to save the show.

Janet Jackson Opens Up About Death In The Family

Share

Everyone could see that Michael Jackson and sister Janet Jackson had a very special bond. Sure he probably looked most like LaToya, and spent most of his life on tour with his brothers, but it was his relationship with Janet that people were most interested in. In the October issue of Harper's Bazaar that hits newsstands on September 22, Janet opens up about life after the death of her family. She says that she has barely watched the news or even opened up a newspaper since his death because, "It will drive you crazy."

Janet talks about the last time she saw her brother was a little over a month before his death. She says the family got together, the children played, they ate and just laughed. "We had so much fun that day," she tells Harper's. "We kept calling each other after and saying how great it was." Janet also talks about Michael's kids, saying that, " The kids are doing well. They're with all their cousins; that family love will keep them going."

Since Michael's death, Janet has thrown herself back into her work. She went back to shooting her latest film with Tyler Perry in Atlanta, is currently working on a new album and is also writing a new book. One aspect of her book will focus on her emotional eating. "I can be an emotional eater. Of late, I have been doing that, yes. It started when I was very little. My brothers were gone on tour a lot, and I would miss them so much. Certain things in my life would become triggers."

She spoke more about Michael, saying that he was a man who loved his sparkles. "Do you remember that black jacket he wore for Motown's 25th anniversary? That's our mother's! He grabbed that from her closet! He loved anything that sparkled." Janet even says that the last time she saw him, he was wearing his sparkles.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the article is Janet opening up about her relationship with Michael when they were children. "When I was 14 years old, I would shop for him.  I washed his clothes, cleaned his room. When Mother would go out of town, she'd say, 'I'm leaving you in charge. Take care of Mike.' I would head home from school, see what he needed, then go straight to the stores." To Janet, these are the fond memories she'll remember.

We are all anxiously awaiting for the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to see what the Janet Jackson tribute will be. I mean, after a huge memorial service and a beautiful burial, what else can they do? Make sure to grab Harpers for even more of the Janet Jackson interview.

Janet Jackson To Pay Tribute To Michael At 2009 Video Music Awards

Share

janet-jackson-mj-memorial.jpg

This is a surprise. Janet Jackson, the Jackson family member who has laid the lowest and remained the quietest since the death of Michael Jackson, is set to make a special appearance at the 2009 Video Music Awards.

Janet will open the awards show, doing what, we won't know until the awards are presented Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 9PM. Previous reports noting that choreographer Frank Gaston is involved are erroneous.

So do you think Janet will perform, or just introduce the segment? Let us know what you think in the comments.
