Everyone could see that
Michael Jackson and sister
Janet Jackson had a very special bond. Sure he probably looked most like
LaToya, and spent most of his life on tour with his brothers, but it was his relationship with Janet that people were most interested in. In the October issue of
Harper's Bazaar that hits newsstands on September 22, Janet opens up about life after the death of her family. She says that she has barely watched the news or even opened up a newspaper since his death because, "It will drive you crazy."
Janet talks about the last time she saw her brother was a little over a month before his death. She says the family got together, the children played, they ate and just laughed. "We had so much fun that day," she tells Harper's. "We kept calling each other after and saying how great it was." Janet also talks about Michael's kids, saying that, " The kids are doing well. They're with all their cousins; that family love will keep them going."
Since Michael's death, Janet has thrown herself back into her work. She went back to shooting her latest film with
Tyler Perry in Atlanta, is currently working on a new album and is also writing a new book. One aspect of her book will focus on her emotional eating. "I can be an emotional eater. Of late, I have been doing that, yes. It started when I was very little. My brothers were gone on tour a lot, and I would miss them so much. Certain things in my life would become triggers."
She spoke more about Michael, saying that he was a man who loved his sparkles. "Do you remember that black jacket he wore for Motown's 25th anniversary? That's our mother's! He grabbed that from her closet! He loved anything that sparkled." Janet even says that the last time she saw him, he was wearing his sparkles.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the article is Janet opening up about her relationship with Michael when they were children. "When I was 14 years old, I would shop for him. I washed his clothes, cleaned his room. When Mother would go out of town, she'd say, 'I'm leaving you in charge. Take care of Mike.' I would head home from school, see what he needed, then go straight to the stores." To Janet, these are the fond memories she'll remember.
We are all anxiously awaiting for the
2009 MTV Video Music Awards to
see what the Janet Jackson tribute will be. I mean, after a huge memorial service
and a beautiful burial, what else can they do? Make sure to grab Harpers for even more of the Janet Jackson interview.
