Oprah Winfrey To Bid Talk Show Adieu

Share

Over the past 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has wormed her way into the living rooms and hearts of American housewives across the country. She has spoken frankly about her issues with weight, interviewed countless celebrities, all the while modeling various amazing hairstyles that have enthralled and entertained.

Winfrey announced on the episode of her talk show set to air today, "After much prayer and careful thought, I decided that next season, season 25 will be the last season."

While the 55-year-old talk show host will be retiring her long-running daytime series, she'll still be toiling in the television industry. Oprah plans to shift her focus to launching her cable channel, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, in collaboration with Discovery.

Tears streaming down her cheeks, Oprah thanked her audience and said, "I love this show. ... This show has been my life and I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye." Do you know why she was crying? Because that gun Tyra Banks was pressing into her back was pointy.

Precious Diva Can Act

Share

Lee Daniels' perspective is wider and greater than mine could ever approach.  He saw something in Mariah Carey (the actress) and decided she should play the mustached, homely social worker in his highly buzzed film of the season, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.

In a recent post-screening interview Carey revealed a few things that seemed given as well as a surprise or two.

As one would expect, Mariah admits she takes the label of "Diva" as a compliment, considering it a title of status as well as a state of mind: "My mother is an opera singer... So she was very much the diva...and she's fabulous. I would meet these people and they would always be just so talented and amazing... You could be the diva of cupcakes...it doesn't matter."

She also outlaid the challenges of embracing her role in Daniels' film, which involved kissing her vanity goodbye: "They put some nice red stuff under my eyes and the little mustache and it was so pretty. I had to really let go..."  Letting go, it appears, has paid off, as both Daniels and the film's producer, Oprah Winfrey have commended Carey for abandoning her usual glamour and looks to uphold the integrity of the character and the film.  To boot, high compliments came to her from legendary actor Sidney Poitier, who told Carey, "he almost didn't recognize [her] in the movie," referring of course to her acting.

The unexpected bit of the interview came when Carey revealed that the character she sympathized with most in Precious was the protagonist, herself:  "I always felt like an outsider when I was growing up. It's very difficult when you come from an interracial family... My mom didn't really know how to do my hair. Her hair is naturally straight. We didn't have a lot of money. It was difficult. What she went through nobody should go through. I've had certain situations that I wouldn't talk about in public ever, except maybe when I write my memoirs someday."

Sounds utterly grown-up from a woman who claims she is eternally a preteen in her heart: "I am still not a grown-up," she declares. "I refuse to grow up. I'm eternally 12. And you can write that next to my age."

I'll admit, I saw Glitter, and all I have to say is I should have have never said never, 'cause come December I'll be paying money to see Mariah Carey... act.

Inside every Gay Man Is a Soul Sister Waiting to Come Out!

This year ladies and gentle ladies (hee hee, did you catch the reference to girly men??), it looks like we have our vicarious candidate!

Gabourey Sidibe is the Oscar buzzed up star of the Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry produced, and Lee Daniels directed, film adaption of the book, Push: Based On The Novel By Sapphire, titled Precious, now playing in theaters.

In an interview with Black Book Magazine, Gabourey "Gabby", talks about meeting Oprah for the first time, not wanting to disappoint director Lee Danials, and what kind of first impression co-star Mariah Carey really makes.

"I felt immense pressure to do justice to Sapphire's story. I hate when adaptations get it wrong. Precious was Sapphire's baby. I also felt responsibility to Lee Daniels, who chose me from obscurity and put me in the same room as Helen Mirren, Halle Berry, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. [all of whom had been in talks to star in the film]. Helen Mirren didn't end up doing it, because she got a real offer that paid her money instead of chicken wings."

Check the attitude people?? SUPER STAR POTENTIAL!

"The first time I saw her [Mariah Carey] was at Lee Daniels' apartment. She walked in and behind her I saw a trail of glitter and diamonds--but that's my perception of her, because she's Mariah."

With Mo'nique and Mariah by By Gabby's side?? Oh yeah. Soul. Sister. Status.

'Precious' Premieres In Hollywood With A Splash

Share

It certainly looks like the premiere of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the place to be last night, with Mary J. Blige singing to celebrate the event. Oprah Winfrey looked tickled pink as she mixed and mingled with director, Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Gabourey Sidibe.

I have to admit, Star Jones, actually looked damn good in her jewel-toned, deep blue dress. Another lady stepping out in a bold color was Garcelle Beauvais, whose frock matched the red carpet, as well as the gown worn by the film's big star, Gabourey Sidibe.

Gabourey's co-star, Mo'Nique looked fabulous in her sparkly gold, strapless gown. The actress is getting rave reviews for her performance in the film and will most likely be walking down the red carpet for the Oscars. She better keep her calendar free this awards season.

Chris Brown Talks Oprah With Angie Martinez

Share

Once again, Chris Brown is discussing his frustrations with talk show host, Oprah Winfrey. The singer talked with Angie Martinez on New York's Hot 97 in a radio interview.

Of Oprah's initial reaction to the news of Brown's abuse of then-girlfriend, Rihanna, Chris said, "At the time, when I think I needed a helping hand, for her to reach out to me and talk to Rihanna and say this is wrong and this is right, or whatever the case may be."

As for individuals who did reach out to him, Brown cited Sean Combs and Will Smith. In addition, he cleared up any talk of strife between rapper Jay-Z, who had been rumored to be behind the reason for Chris Brown not performing at last year's BET Awards.

Brown said, "I don't know and don't think it was him. I don't got anything against homie."

Sex, Intrigue, And Litigation On Oprah Winfrey's Private Jet

Share

Ooooowee, Oprah!  Your private jet is more interesting than your show!  And the new Melrose Place!

RadarOnline.com reported today that Corrine Gehrls, a flight attendant, has sued Oprah Winfrey's company, Harpo, Inc. because of her wrongful termination.  This was due to false accusations that she and a married pilot joined the Mile High Club whilst O peacefully dreamed about solid-gold hamburgers.  What?  I can't be the only one who dreams about solid-gold hamburgers, people.

Anyway, the story gets even more interesting as the suit also names fellow flight attendants Myron Gooch and Kirby Bumpus (who happens to be Gayle King's daughter!), who falsely reported said inappropriate behavior to the all-mighty O.  Apparently, Gehrls and Chief Pilot Terry Pansing were having a dispute with Gooch about work schedules.  Gooch then conspired with Bumpus to get the two fired.  J'accuse!

Pansing and Gooch took polygraph tests to prove their innocence to Lord Oprah, but she was unswayed by the evidence and refused to reinstate them.

Gehrls is asking for $300,000 in damages.

Admittedly, Oprah makes 300 large just by wiping the morning crust out of her eyes, but Corrine better run to the hills nonetheless.  No one puts Oprah in a corner!  By the way, is anyone else wondering why Gayle King's daughter is a flight attendant on Air Oprah?

Here's Oprah a few weeks ago, leaving her hotel in Copenhagen while there lobbying to get the 2016 Olympics to Chicago with her best buddy, Barack Obama.  I'll bet they comforted themselves after that disappointment with golden burgers.

Chicago Loses Olympic Big, Oprah & Obamas Disappointed

Share

Despite the campaigning efforts of Oprah Winfrey, Michelle and Barack Obama on behalf of Chicago, the U.S. city was bumped out of contention for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games in the first round of voting.

Tokyo was eliminated in the same round, leaving Madrid and Rio de Janeiro vying for the spot, which ultimately went to the Brazilian hot spot.

The disappointment was palpable when CNN anchor, Tony Harris, reported live from Chicago that the Windy City had lost its bid. Personally, I think Brazilian butt implants are at the root of this.

Oprah Winfrey Campaigns For Olympics In Chicago

Share

Talk show goddess, Oprah Winfrey, has packed her bags and headed to Copenhagen, Denmark to lobby for Chicago's big for the 2016 Games. Winfrey tells the International Olympic Committee, "I love and believe in Chicago, and I think it would be the perfect host city for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

In addition to Oprah's efforts, First lady Michelle Obama and a slew of Olympic gold medalists are also rallying behind the support for Chicago.

While President Barack Obama has yet to decide if he will personally advocate for the city, Oprah's efforts have already made quite an impact, according to the Chicago 2016 chairman Patrick Ryan.

Ryan explains, "As a member of our community and as someone who understands and demonstrates the value of helping others, she embodies the spirit of so many Chicagoans and is truly an emissary for our bid and for the city of Chicago."

Shit, well, if Oprah's on the case, consider it a done deal.

Mariah Carey Shocks Oprah Winfrey With Movie Mustache

Share

Having to put her make-up aside for her role as a homely social worker was a struggle for glamorous pop star, Mariah Carey. She even had a slight mustache in Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire in order to further downplay her appearance.

In an interview with talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, Carey claims she tried to sneak on a little blush here and there during filming, but her efforts were squelched by director Lee Daniels. Ha! It's high school all over again, isn't it, Mariah?

Of her look in the movie, Mariah tells Oprah, "This is so ugly, man, I don't know what to do." Poor Mimi, you just know she was dying to airbrush that shit--getting the shakes from the Photoshop withdrawals.

Meanwhile, Oprah appears concerned that Maria might whip out her ta-tas at any moment, just to prove that they're still there and fabulous.
