Queen Latifah Wants You to Smell Like A Queen

Share

There are no words to describe how much I love Queen Latifah.  She is so beautiful and approachable (and Living Single was one of the most brilliant shows EVER) and I think she and I could be bestest friends!  Ok, that sounded less creepy in my head.

Well, the Queen was at Macy's in Houston last week to promote her new fragrance, Queen (notch).  The fragrance has been described as 'slightly sweet and wearable,' however you'd like to interpret that.  But Latifah picked it out herself, so it must be fabulous.  And having your own fragrance is the latest craze, you guys.

Speaking of fabulous, here she is at Macy's, Herald Square, in NYC yesterday and I'm not too proud to say that I covet her entire outfit.  Except the tights.  I just can't drink the Kool-Aid on that trend.

'Precious' Premieres In Hollywood With A Splash

Share

It certainly looks like the premiere of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the place to be last night, with Mary J. Blige singing to celebrate the event. Oprah Winfrey looked tickled pink as she mixed and mingled with director, Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Gabourey Sidibe.

I have to admit, Star Jones, actually looked damn good in her jewel-toned, deep blue dress. Another lady stepping out in a bold color was Garcelle Beauvais, whose frock matched the red carpet, as well as the gown worn by the film's big star, Gabourey Sidibe.

Gabourey's co-star, Mo'Nique looked fabulous in her sparkly gold, strapless gown. The actress is getting rave reviews for her performance in the film and will most likely be walking down the red carpet for the Oscars. She better keep her calendar free this awards season.

Gallery Info: Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, Gabourey Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Mary J Blige, Queen Latifah, Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey, Paula Patton, Robin Thicke, Sidney Poitier, Mario Lopez, Forest Whitaker, Lisa Edelstein, Gayle King, Sherri Shepherd, Olivia Wilde, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, Tyler Perry, Star Jones, Will Smith, Macy Gray, Paula Abdul and Ephraim Benton at the Precious Hollywood premiere held at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Queen Latifah & Liza Minnelli Celebrate Paper Magazine's 25th Birthday

Share

Broadway legend Liza Minnelli and Oscar-nominated actress Queen Latifah joined forces and each took the stage respectively at the 25th Anniversary Party for Paper magazine at the New York Public Library.

Additionally, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, the Virgins and Janelle Monae also performed along with DJ Mark Ronson taking his place at the turntables. It looks like it must have been quite the shindig.

Kanye and his fellow futuristic fashionista girlfriend, Amber Rose, showed up together, both wearing all-black. Amber made herself look like a Cosmo magazine "don't" with her solid black sunglasses.

Paris Hilton Smells Sweet, Thinks 'The Hills' Stinks

Share

As queen of all that is fake and lame, Paris Hilton takes offense at the existence of the MTV reality series The Hills. At the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Awards, where Hilton took home the prize for Female Celebrity Fragrance, she told Us Weekly, "The show is, like, so lame and fake. [Her boyfriend Doug Reinhardt] doesn't even want to be a part of it."

Ha! Clearly, Paris is not a fan of the show, on which Doug was dumped by Lauren Conrad and then accused by Brody Jenner of pursuing her friend Stephanie Pratt.

Paris continued, "They make up relationships when they're not there, and he just thinks it's lame. I've never seen the show in my life. I have no idea what it's about. But he just thought it was cheesy."

On a completely unrelated note, the second season of Hilton's reality show Paris Hilton's My New BFF airs June 2 on MTV and is a bastion of authenticity and class!

Queen Latifah Sued Over CoverGirl

Share

Lounging around on vacation, Queen Latifah appears as if legal concerns are the last thing she's thinking about as the CoverGirl spokeswoman enjoys a vacation in Miami Beach. Stylist Susan Moses and cosmetologist Roxanna Floyd are suing Latifah, claiming that they are owed a total of $1 million for work done on her CoverGirl campaign and her Curvations clothing line.

Lawyer for Moses, Carmen Giordano, writes, "Despite such demands and assurances as well as expressions of remorse for having stiffed plaintiff...defendants have completely failed to pay plaintiff for her services and....expenses relating to Curvations."

Separate breach of contract suits were filed by the two women in Manhattan Federal Court. Is this some sort of CoverGirl CoverUp?

The Obamas' First Dance

Share

Barack Obama and Michelle Obama (in her now much talked about ivory Jason Wu gown) enjoyed their first dance last night on Inauguration Night at the Neighborhood Ball whilst being serenaded by Beyonce. Beyonce kept Sasha Fierce from coming alive on stage and managed to give Barack and Michelle their moment. Mostly. You know it was her idea to have her own spotlight going. Egotist.

"First of all, how good looking is my wife?" Obama asked the crowd. Yay! How? A lot. As a friend of mine remarked, it's about time we had some hot people in the White House.

Beyonce sang Etta James' "At Last," and the couple was formally introduced by Denzel Washington. Get this - they hit TEN inaugural balls last night. Ten. And they probably weren't even allowed to drink. When club-hopping becomes a chore. After the 7th dance, Shell musta been like "Can you go get us out of Iraq now, while I save the economy? My dogs are barking."

What a night. This hat will always be part of our fondest memories.

Featured in the gallery: Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, Jill Biden, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Ray Romano, Leonardo DiCaprio, Shakira, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Nick Cannon, Mary J. Blige.

Queen Latifah: 2009 People's Choice Awards Red Carpet

Share

YES! I love this look on Queen Latifah! The dres is super-flattering and this color is amazing! I know I'm probably only gushing because it's the same shade as my favorite throw pillows, but whatever. CoverGirl in the house!

When so many people seemed to be wearing low-key, muted colors, Latifah was not afraid to shine on the red carpet in a splashy, bright hue. Her hair and make-up were flawless and yes, well, I obviously can't say enough nice things about her appearance.

But then again, she was playing hostess for the evening, so it only made sense that her dress should be the most fabulous.

31st Kennedy Center Honors: Rainbow-Colored Ribbons Abound

Share

Actor Morgan Freeman, bandmates from The Who, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend, choreagrapher / dancer Twyla Tharp, country singer George Jones and singer and actress Barbra Streisand comprised the group of honorees who received Kennedy Center Honors at Pennsylvania Avenue.

Beyoncé Knowles looked like a curvaceous Aubrey Hepburn with her hair deftly piled atop her head in a sleek bouffant. But the best part of that is that she was in attendance at the same event as fellow diva Streisand. Later in the evening, you know they stared each other down from each end of the red carpet and had a wig-off.

But let us not forget that the original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter was in attendance as well. Knowles has expressed an interest in taking on the role, but I would guess that Carter can probably still squeeze her tush into those red pantaloons. Girlfriend is well-preserved.

Featured in the gallery: Kenneth Babyface Edmdonds, Idina Menzel, Taye Diggs, Chris Cornell, Koko Taylor, Rob Thomas, Tom Skeritt Lynda Carter, Queen Latifah, Barbra Streisand, James Brolin, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Glenn Close, Joss Stone, Pete Townsend, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Roger Daltrey, Twyla Tharp, Ne-Yo, Jack Black and George Jones.

Beyoncé Electrifies On The AMAs Stage

Share

Slinking out onto the stage at the AMAs in her now signature unitard, Beyoncé Knowles didn't seem to mind at all that she wasn't being backed by her buddy Justin Timberlake during her performance of "Single Ladies."

Between the flashing lights, the high heels, hair flips, booty-shaking, it's amazing that no one in the audience experienced seizures. Or maybe they did and were carted out before things got too awkward.

OK, how cute was Queen Latifah when she held up her hand when B asked to hear from the single ladies in the audience? And how is this woman able to run around on stage like she does AND sing live? Being her must require endless pots of coffee.

Red Carpet Ladies: 2008 American Music Awards

Share

It was clear from the dresses being worn by the female talent on the red carpet for the American Music Awards last night that metallic prints are very big right now. Leona Lewis looked like a human cocoon in her reflective, ivory-colored gown sparkling with beading. Ashley Tisdale rocked a mini-dress that appeared to be the silver companion to Miley Cyrus' gold sleeveless sheath dress.

However, Jordin Sparks and Alicia Keys opted instead for bright, rich colors for their gowns. The American Idol winner looked flirty, yet age-appropriate in a short yellow frock. And Alicia Keys struck a dramatic pose in her purple, one-shoulder gown sparkling with details all along the bodice and shoulder.

All in all, everybody--except for the usual suspects of Bai Ling (who looked like a Power Rangers villain) and Phoebe Price (whose dress was actually kind of sweet, except seriously, what is her purpose there???)--looked pretty good.

Even the Pussycat Dolls were dressed pretty demurely in short, but appropriate dresses. They were probably wearing their church clothes.

Featured in the gallery: Jordin Sparks, Brigitte Nielsen, Sarah Chalke, Natasha Bedinfield, Annie Lennox, Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Silverman, Christina Augilera, Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, Rachel Zoe, Pink, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Ann Inaba, Ali Landry, Nicole Scherzinger, Toccara Jones, Shailene Woodley, Leona Lewis, Candis Cayne, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Kat Von D, Alicia Keys, Phoebe Price, Demi Lovato, Bai Ling, Omarosa Stallworth and Queen Latifah.
