Kimora Knows How to Hold It Down

Rules2

The Baby Phat show at the Roseland Ballroom featured a Russian theme and plenty of bling. Britney Spears was there, and seemed happy she kicked Fedex to the curb. Spears proclaimed "Being single is awesome." The haute pop tart was wearing a sexy spaghetti-strap dress and pumps, the standout shoe trend of the season. Kimora Lee Simmons said that sometimes Britney gets a hard rap, but she is very talented. In addition to the newly single spears, Vivica A. Fox, Alicia Keys, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and Ice-T attended along with the tres fashionable Reverend Al Sharpton. Sigler, everyone's favorite mafia princess, admires Simmons for her strength. "Kimora is super fabulous, confident, but also an everywoman. She's honest. She covers a lot of aspects of a woman I admire," said the Soprano's siren. The standout of the show was women's jeans featuring skinny legs, and button details with gold seams. With attendees like Britney Spears and Al Sharpton, it was an ecclectic mix of personalities, opulence and excitement.

Runway Redux: Fashion Trends Galore

Rules2

Julianne Moore looked fresh-faced and preppy at the Lacoste show on Saturday. Kevin Connolly from HBO's "Entourage" was there too. The theme was "le Weekend" and models looked like they were about to hop on the Jitney to East Hampton. Popular trends that popped up at many of the shows included jumpsuits, overalls (say it ain't so!), and suspenders. A more fitted, tailored look was also featured. At Nicole Miller, models donned bowler-style hats with crisp white shirts and long A-line skirts. Popular colors included winter whites, tan neutrals, rich plum, green and teal. The fitted look at Nicole Miller was paired with a print that was inspired by the Mayan tones of Latin America. Her collection featured a chulucana graphic print that was used in ancient pottery, to provide an exciting backdrop for coats, skirts and gowns. All in all, it's a return to tailored sophistication.

Runway Redux: Fashion Week Highlights

Celebs decked out in red graced the runway at the Heart Truth show, a multi designer show that raised awareness about heart disease. First Lady Laura Bush wore a ruby toned Bill Blass skirt suit, hearkening the suit trend for fall. Stars like tennis great Billie Jean King, Lauren Hutton and Kelly Ripa donned red ensembles by BCBG Max Azria, John Bartlett and Perry Ellis.

The Heart Truth show runs through the end of Fashion Week, with celebrity-modeled designs by Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang slated to appear. The standout trend was goddess-inspired gowns featuring one-shoulder design, modeled by Kim Cattrall for Carolina Herrera and Rachael Ray for Donna Karan. Kelly Ripa looked resplendent in a fiery red Diane von Furstenberg beaded wrap dress. All in all, onlookers were treated to a red-hot sneak preview of the Fashion Week trends to come, all for a worthy cause.

Vionnet Launch Party

Rules2

Fashion Week party season was in full swing last night at the Vionnet launch party at Barneys New York. The glitterati were in attendance as Victoria Bartlett, Gilles Bensimon, Valerie Steele, Phillip Lim, Olivia Chantecaille, Meredith Melling Burke, Padma Lakshmi, and Sally Singer converged to party and get a glimpse of the iconic French label that is being reintroduced by 33-year-old fashion phenom Sophia Kokosalaki. Greek-born Kokosalaki, who has outfitted Bjork and the other performers at the 2004 Olympics, is known as the queen of Grecian style dresses. The partnership of a hot new designer like Sophia Kokosalaki and Vionnet seems like a match made in heaven. The House of Vionnet was known for its ethereal, fluid, bodice-skimming sleeping beauty-style dresses. Kokosalaki's Greek goddess-style dress accumen is sure to infuse Vionnet with some new creative energy to appeal to the modern goddess in every woman.

Fall Fashion Week Day 1

Rules2

Today is the premier of Fall Fashion week, where the best and brightest of the fashion world work the runway to display their fabulous new collections. John Bartlett kicks off the show at the Salon at Bryant Park. At Noon Yigal Azrouel is showing his designs at Bumble and bumble in the Meatpacking District. At 1pm Perry Ellis will be showing his collection at the Salon at Bryant Park. At 3pm BCBG will be showing at the Tent at Bryant Park. At 4pm Yeohlee will be showing at the W Hotel on East 49th Street. At 5pm Marc Bouwer will show his animal-friendly collection at the Salon at Bryant Park. At 7pm, Nicole Miller will be at the Promenade at Bryant Park. Fashion trendspotters predict suits, shoulder pads, turtlenecks and cropped jackets will be hot for fall . Leggings are dead but opaque tights are back in. High waists are back in, as are power pumps. It all makes for a very exiting, totally fresh Fall Fashion Week.

Fashion Week Preview

Rules2

Do you crave couture? Are you the type who would rather trade your cash in for fashion than watch the Superbowl? Then rejoice, because today marks the start of New York Fall Fashion Week! 7th on Sixth is putting the finishing touches on the tents at Bryant Park. Mayor Bloomberg said that the 238 fashion shows had outgrown Bryant Park and taken over the ice skating rink during prime skating season, so this is the last time fashion week will be held in Bryant Park. Fashion trends abound, but many attendees are focusing on the skinny model controversy. After models Carolina Reston and Luisel Ramos literally died from being too thin, the fashion industry is rethinking glamorizing the refugee camp look and starting to favor curves over clavicle bones. Americana is all the rage as navy, red and ivory will be patriotically peppering the runway. The silhouette of the season is a long and lean funnel, which is a departure from spring's wide and short look. Classic tailoring ala Greta Garbo is all the rage with uber-wide leg trousers paired with blouses. Compassion is in fashion as some designers like Marc Bower have stopped using any animal-based material, including leather and wool. The return of the dress is in full swing, employing artful textiles and fuller-cut '60s-like silhouettes. As far as the color de jour, Gray is the new black. Must-see shows include: Phillip Lim, Diane von Furstenberg, Proenza Schouler, Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi Zac Posen, and Jovovich-Hawk (which includes Resident Evil diva, Milla Jovovich as the co-designer). Between all of the controversy and the hot new styles, this year's Fall Fashion Week is sure to be one-to-watch.
