The eagerly anticipated re-hookup between Kanye West and "Where the Wild Things Are" director Spike Jonze, "We Were Once a Fairytale," was released over the weekend.
The 11-minute short film -- which is not a video for any specific song but features bits of "See You in My Nightmares" -- was shot in Los Angeles over two days in January, and it opens with West playing himself.

In case you were wondering Where the Wild Things Are, they're on top. The Spike Jonze feature based on the Maurice Sendak's children's book led the pack this weekend, ahead of Law Abiding Citizen and Couples Retreat, earning $32.5 million. It looks like parents weren't turned off by Sendak's damning them and their concerns to hell.
This weekend's opening numbers beat out the total domestic runs of Jonze's first two feature films, but hopefully ticket sales will stay on track for the $80 million dollar movie. It might help that the 18 and over crowd is getting in on the action. When I was a kid I remember wondering what the big deal was about this book and the trailer really creeped me out, but I was clearly in the minority among my friends.
What about you, will you go see Wild Things?

81-year-old author, Maurice Sendak, supported himself with a cane at the New York premiere of the long-anticipated on-screen translation of his famous childrens book, Where the Wild Things Are.
As Sendak made his way past reporters with director, Spike Jonze, the octogenarian mused, "Oh, look at this. A real red carpet." That is pretty damn adorable, if you ask me.
Producer of the film, Tom Hanks, chatted with USA Today about the dark undertone of the classic tale. He explains, "Children are very complex beings...They kind of experience bigger mood swings than adults do because they haven't had any experience yet with loneliness or bitterness or confusion." Poor bastards. They'll learn soon enough. Right around the time when the rent is due. Sigh.

The romance that blossomed between director Spike Jonze and Michelle Williams has come to an end.
Williams confirmed this news in her in-depth interview with Vogue for the October issue. The actress confesses, "I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: It just makes things more complicated."
The twosome worked together on the 2007 film, Synecdoche, New York and Jonze is the first boyfriend Michelle has had since Heath Ledger's death. Reasons cited by the actress for the split are "timing" and the challenges she faces as a single mother.
She adds, "I obviously don't know how to do it."

It's nice to see that Spike Jonze is stepping up his fraternal instincts. Page Six is reporting that the director was seen having breakfast with girlfriend Michelle Williams' daughter Matilda Ledger yesterday. They were spotted the Upper West Side eatery Isabella's. One onlooker told us the toddler, whose biological father is Heath Ledger, "was eating scrambled eggs with Spike," and "Michelle came to pick them up when they were finished."
Good for Spike. It's time Matilda has a father figure in her life.

Awww. Michelle Williams and director Spike Jonze took a romantic morning walk in New York City. The couple who have been dating for over half a year, looked like they were having an enjoyable stroll until they noticed the paparazzi. That could be why Spike departed, and Michelle went on to grab an iced coffee alone.
While Michelle Williams has found new love, Heath Ledger will always be a part of her life due to their daughter Matilda Ledger. Plus, she'll be receiving the Oscar that Heath won for The Dark Knight shortly. The Oscar will then pass to Heath and Michelle's 3-year-old daughter, Matilda, when she turns 18 years old.

-Colin Powell has disappointed the Republican party by announcing that he supports Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama for President. According to the former Bush cabinet member and retired Army general, "He knows, as we do, that this is a moment where we need to come together as one nation--young and old, rich and poor, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Republican and Democrat."
-According to The Sun, Guy Ritchie is getting a whopping $60 million from his "beastly" future ex-wife Madonna. That should help soften the blow of being "emotionally retarded."
