Inside every Gay Man Is a Soul Sister Waiting to Come Out!

Share

This year ladies and gentle ladies (hee hee, did you catch the reference to girly men??), it looks like we have our vicarious candidate!

Gabourey Sidibe is the Oscar buzzed up star of the Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry produced, and Lee Daniels directed, film adaption of the book, Push: Based On The Novel By Sapphire, titled Precious, now playing in theaters.

In an interview with Black Book Magazine, Gabourey "Gabby", talks about meeting Oprah for the first time, not wanting to disappoint director Lee Danials, and what kind of first impression co-star Mariah Carey really makes.

"I felt immense pressure to do justice to Sapphire's story. I hate when adaptations get it wrong. Precious was Sapphire's baby. I also felt responsibility to Lee Daniels, who chose me from obscurity and put me in the same room as Helen Mirren, Halle Berry, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. [all of whom had been in talks to star in the film]. Helen Mirren didn't end up doing it, because she got a real offer that paid her money instead of chicken wings."

Check the attitude people?? SUPER STAR POTENTIAL!

"The first time I saw her [Mariah Carey] was at Lee Daniels' apartment. She walked in and behind her I saw a trail of glitter and diamonds--but that's my perception of her, because she's Mariah."

With Mo'nique and Mariah by By Gabby's side?? Oh yeah. Soul. Sister. Status.

'Precious' Premieres In Hollywood With A Splash

It certainly looks like the premiere of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire was the place to be last night, with Mary J. Blige singing to celebrate the event. Oprah Winfrey looked tickled pink as she mixed and mingled with director, Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry and Gabourey Sidibe.

I have to admit, Star Jones, actually looked damn good in her jewel-toned, deep blue dress. Another lady stepping out in a bold color was Garcelle Beauvais, whose frock matched the red carpet, as well as the gown worn by the film's big star, Gabourey Sidibe.

Gabourey's co-star, Mo'Nique looked fabulous in her sparkly gold, strapless gown. The actress is getting rave reviews for her performance in the film and will most likely be walking down the red carpet for the Oscars. She better keep her calendar free this awards season.

Mariah Carey's 'Precious' Gets Oscar Buzz; Her Next Single Announced

Share

Check it this powerhouse of a trio. Mariah Carey shows off her curvaceous body (which she would like you to touch, incidentally) flanked by media mogul Oprah Winfrey and singer Mary J. Blige at a press conference for Mimi's critically-acclaimed movie, Precious: Based Upon the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire.

The threesome posed for paparazzi and I'm pretty sure that in one of the photos, you can actually see Oprah popping in to make sure she's included. Gotta love that impetuous O! Mary and Mariah were probably giggling over the failed Michael Jackson concert tribute attempt in between photos. I can just hear it--Mariah telling MJ, "I can't believe you got caught up in that drama. Even Janet managed to steer clear of that mess."

As for the movie itself, the performance delivered by supporting actress, Mo'Nique, in the gritty drama is creating quite a stir. The film, which stars newcomer Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe, has been racking up the awards along its way through the film festival circuit and has been earmarked for the upcoming Oscar season.

Meanwhile, in other Mariah Carey news, the singer plans to drop her next single, "I Want to Know What Love Is" on September 14.

Tyler Perry Leads NAACP Image Awards Men

Share

Look at the sea of tuxedos. What is it about a man in a suit that hits the mark every time? I'm not sure, but although Tyler Perry knew better than to try and compete with his co-host for last night's NAACP Image Awards Halle Berry for most costume changes and kept his ensemble simple. Decked out in all black, Perry left the Madea costume at home and instead kept it sleek and sophisticated.

Looking dapper were all of the usually well-dressed suspects: Will Smith, Sean Combs and Al Gore. OK, so Al isn't exactly a red carpet regular at entertainment events, but he looks like he probably sleeps in a suit, so that's worth pointing out.

Of course, if anyone is going to deviate from the traditional black and white suit and tie combo, it's going to be the music industry peeps. Will.i.am was rocking a retro look in his light-colored suit, hat and Elvis Costello glasses and tennis shoes. And Russell Simmons put a twist on his traditional suit by sporting his Yankees ball cap and his Adidas.

Featured in the gallery: Seal, Will Smith, Sean Combs, James Pickens Jr., Louis Gossett Jr., Hill Harper, william, Russell Simmons, Danny Glover, Nate Parker, Ben Vereen, Tyler James Williams, Tyler Perry, Blair Underwood, Cornelius Smith Jr, Terry Crews, Al Gore, Jonathan Julian, Ben Vereen.
