To me, nothing embodies the spirit of the holidays more than this little snippet of life, portraying two straight men doing what they have to do to support their family. Man's ability to quickly adapt and even excel at skills they didn't even know they possessed is truly remarkable. Plus, this comedy short stars Laura Silverman (sister of Sarah) who is amazing on "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "The Comeback" (now on DVD for your Christmas buying pleasure). I like to think that my dad would have been willing to do the same to put bread on our table. Or maybe I don't. I'm not yet sure how I feel about it...
Here's a little something different to start off the weekend and give those of you that don't live in L.A. a little idea of what it's like here around the holidays. I was tempted to lie and tell you that's Paris and Tinkerbell in the first main shot but we do have some integrity to uphold here at ASL.
Inspired by the awesome videos on Vimeo, I went on an hour long shooting "mission" yesterday and walked up to the "Sunset Strip" to see what sort of holiday imagery I could find. Not much, as it turns out. The most decorated building was "The Body Shop," a strip club and "Saddle Ranch," a trendy western themed bar with a very unforgiving mechanical bull.
We'll get to this very funny video in a second, but first, a little story-time. A couple years ago, I noticed Jack Plotnick, the star of the above comedy short, at The Factory in West Hollywood. Having been a fan of "Gods and Monsters," and just recently seen him in the hilarious cult film "Girls Will be Girls," I decided to say hi. I don't normally do this, but he seemed approachable enough, so I think I said something to the effect of, "Hey, you were great in 'Gods and Monsters 'and--and it was at that point I remember him being a little dismissive and sort of giving me this look that clearly said, "stop hitting on me," which I really wasn't doing at all. So, then I just sort of sulked away. Now to be fair, loud, drunken bar conversations and situations can easily be misinterpreted and I certainly don't want to start any rumors that Jack Plotnick is a diva, but I did want the world and Jack to know that I forgive him, because I'm sure he's been losing sleep over it. I may even show up at one of his acting workshops soon, where I will sit creepily in the back, glaring at him.
Wow, boring story, Wayne. On with the video--it was written and directed by "Arrested Development" and "Aliens in America" producer, Richard Day, who has just informed me that he is hard at work editing "the much more-ambitious Evie-Coco opus 'The Jizz Party,' which should be ready in January." With a title like that, I'm already really excited! Oh, and here is a screen shot Richard just sent over of Coco talking to her baby Preston in his "crib."
No Tomkat or Mr. Posh sightings at last Friday's Spice Girls Concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but who cares? There was enough taking place on stage to keep us well-occupied. The concert excited me in places that haven't been excited in years and I'm not even sure it's healthy for those "places" to be excited. Our seats were super-close to the stage-left catwalk ,which made for some awesome photos and I even managed to snag the above video as they opened the show with "Spice Up Your Life." Enjoy!
Justin Timberlake performed the final concert of his 60 country 'FutureSex/LoveShow' world tour last night in Abu Dhabi at the Emirates Place Hotel. Apparently he was so wooed by the culture of the United Arab Emirates that he reportedly bought land in the area.
We interrupt your regularly-scheduled celebrity gossip to bring you something a little bit different. This Texan loves his Jimmy Dean sausage but as he informs what I'm guessing what is corporate headquarters that, "he can't feed a family of five on a small 12 oz. roll of sausage," he very colorfully explains the extent to which it pisses him off. The best is at the end when he mistakenly believes he's already hung up and really lets the listener know how he feels about being short-changed on his meat.
Is this a missing tape from the Lyndon B. Johnson vault? You decide.
What was the only new movie this weekend to break the Box Office Top 5? Here's a hint: It stars Hayden Christensen. And did you see Disney "Enchanted" starring Amy Adams yet? Seems like everyone else has, as it remains #1 in it's 3rd week out earning nearly $71M.
Also we have a glimpse at a movie from the studio that brought you "The Chronicles of Narnia" and the special effects team from "The Lord of the Rings." It's called "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep" and it comes out December 25th.
I know we've already told you about this earlier, but we thought that maybe you hadn't had a chance to check it out and it really, truly shouldn't be missed. The woman does the splits, for God's sake! Also, here's some background info on the woman who appears to be wearing the hardest working bra in the business. Straight out of Newark, New Jersey, Heavy Vee has this to say on her Myspace profile:
She was inspired by Hip Hop artists that "kept it real" like Lil' Kim, Missy Elliot, Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and Salt n Pepa. When Vanessa turned 15, she gained the confidence to share her own songs with others and booked her first ever live performance at a local steak house in Jersey. From these humble beginnings, Heavy Vee was born!
Like Oprah and her "Favorite Things" episode I have been secretly working behind-the-scenes on this for weeks. Negotiating with record label corporate suits and even yanking it out from under another top internet gossip blogger to be able to launch it here, on "A Socialite's Life" for the first time ever. Am I over selling it? Maybe. But also maybe not. My Medicine card for today was a Tiger which of course means this should be the NEXT BIG VIRAL VIDEO HIT!
Let me introduce to you, as a WORLD PREMIERE EXCLUSIVE, the one and only- Heavy Vee!!
