Janet Jackson To Open American Music Awards

Share

Janet Jackson will open the 37th annual AMA's this year, a year which might have been Michael's big comeback year.

Michael Jackson will receive five posthumous American Music Award nominations, so it only seems fitting that a Jackson should open up the ceremonies.  She's the obvious choice since, let's face it, Janet is the Jackson with the highest potential to hold it together and not weird-out in this highly prestigious setting.

AMA producer Larry Klein expressed he is, "thrilled about having Janet Jackson open this year's show," which is rumored to include, "an eight minute medley of songs," which will surely honor big brother, Michael as a tribute.   Career-wise the timing could not be better as Ms. Jackson is set to release a two-disc singles collections titled Number Ones as well as a new album, "slated to be released in 2010."

Now thin-again Janet has 9 AMA awards under her belt and has performed at the Awards on three other occasions.

To represent the full spectra of artist personalities, 21 AMA Award recipient Whitney Houston will also be performing, and will receive the "International Artist Award."  Shakira, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson, Jay-Z, Carrie Underwood, and Green Day are also set to perform.

Whitney Houston Wows Italy On 'X-Factor'

Share

After waiting 11 years for the singer to return, Italy has welcomed Whitney Houston to the stage for her performance on X-Factor in Milan.

The songbird performed the single "Million Dollar Bill" from her new album. The audience went wild for the singer, who showed off her trademark long limbs in a strapless white Dolce & Gabbana dress. And this time around, her boobs were safely secured with big black bow.

Whitney's 46-year-old pipes seemed to be in good working order as she bounded across the stage energetically, a big smile on her face. I think the exuberant host best expressed the feeling in the crowd when he asked, "Can I lick you?" Grazi, indeed!

Whitney Houston's 'X Factor' Dress Malfunction

Share

Whitney Houston hit the stage last night on Britain's equivalent to American Idol, X Factor. She had a little trouble however, mid-way through the song a strap on the back of her long silver dress snapped open midway through her performance of "Million Dollar Bill."

The 46-year-old singer, making her first UK TV appearance in 12 years, shrugged off the wardrobe malfunction, however, joking to host Dermot O'Leary afterwards: "I sang myself out of my clothes."

Check out the video of her performance by clicking the continue reading link below.

Whitney Houston Gives Wendy Williams The Nah-Nah

Share

Oprah: Yes. Silly German Talk Shows: Yes. Wendy Williams: Hell-To-The-No.

New York Daily news reports that Whitney Houston refuses to be a guest on the Wendy Williams Show. Houston is still miffed at Wendy Williams for asking some pretty personal questions. During an on-air interview in 2003, the radio shock-jock kept asking questions about Houston's alleged drug abuse.  The exchanges escalated and Houston finally told Williams, "If this were back in the day in Newark, I'd meet you outside."

Williams, former radio host-turned-talk-show-host, has a history of bashing black Hollywood.  She sided with Eminen when Mariah Carey dissed the rapper in her hit, "Obsessed," even though he released a track calling the singer a "bitch" and a "whore."  Oh, then she smack-talked Carey's husband, Nick Cannon.

Williams also reportedly called Usher, Tyler Perry, LL Cool J and Diddy "gay" on the radio, questioning their masculinity.

Needless to say, Williams has burned more than a few bridges and should consider sending each offended party a shiny new Benz.  Make like Oprah, Wendy.  Just give them all a car and they'll lava you forever. That actually might not work, seeing as these stars could buy the factory that makes the Benz.  A hand-written apology should do the trick...Nope, not at all.  Start groveling, sister.

Whitney Houston Will Not Be Joining 'Desperate Housewives'

Share

Sadly, the rumor that Whitney Houston might be taking up residence in Wisteria Lane is just a rumor. MediaTakeOut initially reported that the singer's representatives were "ACTIVELY negotiating to have her get a recurring role on ABC's Desperate Housewives."

However, E! Online claims that this chatter is pure poppycock. The news outlet says that ABC representatives have shot down the rumor. Sadness. It's on television where Whitney really shines, I find.

Whitney Houston Performs On 'Wetten Dass'

Share

Whitney Houston performed "I Look To You" live on the German talk show Wetten Dass. The singer received a standing ovation prior to her performing the song. Her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was in the audience watching the performance.

Her voice is so much rougher now. While she still has a pretty good set of pipes on her, it's rough. Thoughts?

Mary J. Blige Wishes Kanye West & Whitney Houston Drama-Free Lives

Share

No stranger to turbulent times, R&B artist Mary J. Blige is speaking out about Kanye West's now infamous antics on stage at last weekend's MTV Video Music Awards.

Blige tells Us Weekly, "I love Kayne, and I wish the best for him." The "No More Drama" singer adds, "I pray that whatever's going on with him, he deals with it."

Meanwhile, Mary couldn't be more excited about the way that Whitney Houston's comeback is going. Blige says she's "super happy" for Houston. Blige said of Whitney's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, "Go, Whitney! She was honest, and that's what I love!"

Then, Mary leaned over and fixed a scuff on her shoe with a black Sharpie. Cause Mary's real like that and that's why we love her.

In the midst of Oprah Winfrey kicking off her 24th season, the talk show host is talking up her recent interview with songstress, Whitney Houston.

Winfrey teases the upcoming episode, which airs September 14, by saying of their chat together, "I just wanted to be able to have an honest conversation with her. One woman to another woman. And the day of the interview I literally prayed about that all day long."

While she doesn't dish any details, Oprah reveals, "I just wanted a connection between the two of us. And that is what happened. And that is why I believe it's one of the most, if not the most, powerful interviews I've ever done."

Meanwhile, it was a star-studded outdoor event to kick off this year's season of O's talk show, featuring a public concert on Michigan Avenue in Chicago that included performances from Jennifer Hudson, Black Eyed Peas, Criss Angel, James Taylor, Rascal Flatts and more.

Oprah knows how to do it up right.

Whitney Houston Performs On 'Good Morning America'

Share

A very grateful Whitney Houston gushed to her fans after performing on Good Morning America as part of the morning show's Summer Concert Series.

After singing to the crowd gathered at Rumsey Playfied in Central Park, the songstress thanked her fans and told them "God bless you" repeatedly. "You make me feel so good," Houston told the audience.

Houston also apologized for occasional evidence of the wear and tear her voice has taken throughout the years, blaming her interview with Oprah Winfrey for at least some of the squeaks. She explained, "When I'm talking, I should be singing," although she admitted that her chat with the iconic talk show host was "so good."

Her first selection was "Million Dollar Bill," followed by "My Love Is Your Love," "I Look To You" and finally "I Am Every Woman." Aww, go on Whit.
